The Walking Dead was trending in Ireland this morning, thanks to piracy

Several of you stayed up until the wee hours to watch the show.

THE LATEST SEASON of The Walking Dead premiered last night in the United States. Without getting into spoiler territory, the season opener blew people’s minds.

The episode will air on this side of the Atlantic tonight on FOX at 9pm, but some of you just couldn’t wait that long.

In fact, so many of you stayed up to pirate the episode or stream it from not-so-legal sources that it was trending in Ireland this morning. Ahead of Love/Hate even!

Some people demonstrated extreme commitment and stayed up to the wee hours to get their fix.

Others already had insider tips to share.

Of course, not everyone was a mad yoke and watched it live. Some admirably abstained from staying up late to watch it.

For them, the struggle was real.

Last year, the first episode of the show’s fourth season was downloaded 500,000 times within sixteen hours of appearing on torrent sites.

This year, the programme will air in 125 countries within twenty-four hours of its initial US broadcast in an effort to curb piracy. (Oops.)

The fifth season of the wildly popular zombie show will contain sixteen episodes to be broadcast in two halves. The first half will air between now and December, while the second half will kick off in February 2015.
